MacBook not charging: the most common causes

MacBook not charging: repair at the IC Computer Services workshop

  • Faulty charger or cable: a damaged USB-C cable or an unsuitable charger.
  • Dirty or damaged USB-C port: dust, worn contact, forced connector.
  • Battery at the end of its life: very short battery life, casing that swells, service message.
  • Water damage: the charging circuit is often the first to be hit.
  • Charging circuit on the board: the charger is fine but the board no longer manages the power.

To check before you come

  • Test another charger and another cable of the same power.
  • Try the other USB-C ports if your model has several.
  • Check whether the charger gets abnormally hot or the port contains dirt.
  • If the casing swells or the trackpad lifts, stop using and charging the device: the battery is damaged.
