A connector is the small gateway through which power, data, picture and sound pass. It is plugged and unplugged hundreds of times, so it is one of the parts that wear out fastest. The good news: connector repair is often possible without replacing the whole device. Here is how to find your way.

Which device, which connector?

For your connector repair, choose your device: the connectors concerned stay lit. Click a card to see the signs of wear and what we do.

All the connectors we repair.

USB-C

Smartphones, tablets, laptops, controllers
Signs of wear: charging cuts out, you have to hold the cable at an angle, the device is no longer recognised by the computer.
What we do: clean the port, then replace the connector if necessary.

Micro-USB

Older smartphones, e-readers, console controllers
Signs of wear: the cable no longer stays in place, charging is intermittent.
What we do: replace the charging port, test charging and data transfer.

Lightning

iPhones before the 15, older iPads, Apple accessories
Signs of wear: “Accessory not supported”, slow or erratic charging.
What we do: careful cleaning (lint packs in very quickly), then replacing the connector if needed.

USB-A

PCs, consoles, televisions, set-top boxes
Signs of wear: the stick or drive disconnects at the slightest movement.
What we do: resolder or replace the socket on the board.

HDMI

Consoles, laptops, televisions, set-top boxes
Signs of wear: no picture, black screen, flickering picture, bent pins.
What we do: replace the HDMI port by soldering. After diagnosis, we tell you whether it can be repaired.

Ethernet (RJ45)

Laptops, consoles, televisions, set-top boxes
Signs of wear: the network cable comes out by itself, the latch is broken, no more wired connection.
What we do: replace the network socket.

3.5 mm audio jack

Smartphones, PCs, controllers, headphones
Signs of wear: sound on one side only, crackling, the headset is no longer detected.
What we do: clean, then replace the audio socket.

Power (DC)

Laptops, monitors, mini PCs
Signs of wear: the PC no longer charges, it only charges if you tilt the cable.
What we do: replace the power socket on the motherboard.

Depending on the model, some ports are soldered onto the main board: after diagnosis, we tell you honestly whether repair is possible.

Connector repair: is the port the cause?

A few signs that a connector repair is needed.

Having to “find the angle”

Charging only works if you hold the cable at an angle or press on it.

Connection that drops

The device connects then disconnects by itself, especially at the slightest movement.

No picture or sound

Black screen on the television or console, even though the machine starts up fine. For a PS5, see our PS5 repair in Brussels page.

Clogged port

Dust or lint blocks the cable: sometimes a cleaning is enough.

From serial port to USB-C: why connectors have changed

Every connector was created to solve a problem. Here are the main milestones, from Ethernet to USB-C.

1973

Ethernet

Invented to link computers together in a network. Today’s RJ45 socket is its heir.

1996

USB 1.0

A single port to replace the serial, parallel and PS/2 sockets that cluttered PCs.

2000

USB 2.0

Much faster: the arrival of USB sticks and external drives.

2002

HDMI

A single cable carries digital picture and sound to the television.

2008

USB 3.0

Transfer speeds multiplied again, often recognisable by its blue tab.

2012

Lightning

Apple replaces its old 30-pin connector with a slimmer, reversible plug.

2014

USB-C

Reversible, it carries data, video and power over a single cable.

2024–2026

USB-C mandatory

The European Union requires USB-C: smartphones and tablets since the end of 2024, laptops from April 2026.

Why is everyone moving to USB-C?

Because a single socket replaces several: you charge, transfer data and connect a screen with the same cable, in both directions. It is simpler for you, with fewer cables to buy and less waste. The downside: a port that does everything also wears out faster, which is why it matters to know it can be repaired.

How we go about connector repair

No needless replacement: we look for the real cause first.

Diagnosis

We test the cable, the charger and the port, and check for dust or a bent pin.

Repair

Cleaning if that is enough, otherwise replacing or resoldering the connector on the board.

Check

We check charging, transfer, picture or sound before returning the device to you.

Frequently asked questions about connector repair

Answers to the questions we are asked most often.

My phone no longer charges: is it the port?

It might be, but not always. We first test the cable and the charger, then clean the port: lint often packs in there. If the problem persists, we replace the connector.

The HDMI port on my console or television is damaged: can it be repaired?

Often yes: the port is soldered to the board and can be replaced. After diagnosis, we tell you whether repair is possible on your model.

Why are all devices moving to USB-C?

Because it is reversible and carries everything over a single cable: data, video and power. The European Union is also gradually making it mandatory, so you no longer need a different charger for each device.

Is my data kept?

Repairing a connector does not normally require wiping the device. As a precaution, back up your data before you come if you can.

How do I know what you can repair?

Message us on WhatsApp with the device model and a photo of the port, or drop by the shop: the diagnosis is free, for any connector repair.
