- The iPhone rings or vibrates, but the screen stays black: the screen or its flex cable is often the cause, especially after a drop or a knock.
- No sign of life at all: completely drained battery, charging problem or fault on the circuit board.
- Black screen after water damage: moisture may have reached the screen or the board.
- Black screen after an update: a forced restart sometimes fixes the problem.
To try before you come
- Plug the iPhone into the charger for 30 minutes with a cable in good condition.
- Do a forced restart (the button combination depends on the model).
- Call the iPhone’s number: if it rings, the device is working and the screen is the main suspect.
If the screen stays black, don’t force it and bring it in: a wrong move can damage the internal flex cables.
