Laptop not charging: the most common causes

- Faulty charger: cut cable, worn adapter or insufficient power.
- Damaged charging port: the connector is broken, bent or badly soldered.
- Battery at the end of its life: it no longer charges or no longer holds a charge.
- Software problem: battery driver or power management.
- Charging circuit on the motherboard: the charger is fine, but the board no longer manages the power.
To try before you come
- Test another charger of the same power (same voltage and amperage).
- Check that the charger light comes on.
- Unplug the charger, remove the battery if it is removable, then hold the power button for 30 seconds before plugging back in.
- Avoid bending the cable near the plug.
If the port moves when you touch the cable, do not force it: the connector is probably damaged.

Before you come to the workshop: what to know
For a quick diagnosis, bring the laptop with its original charger. Note since when charging has been a problem, whether the port moves, and whether the laptop starts on mains power. These details help us target the fault from the start.
Bringing the charger lets us test it directly, without needlessly changing a part.
