MacBook black screen: two situations to tell apart

- No sign of life (no sound, no light): battery, charging or board.
- The Mac starts (sound, fan, lit keyboard) but the screen stays black: the screen, its cable or the backlight are often the cause, especially after a drop or an abrupt closing.
- Black screen after a liquid: internal oxidation is possible. Switch off and bring it in quickly.
To try first
- Plug in the charger for at least 30 minutes, then try to start.
- Disconnect accessories (screen, drive, hub).
- Reset the power management according to your model.
- Connect an external screen: if the picture appears, the MacBook screen is suspect.
