On a laptop, a black screen with a spinning fan can also come from the screen or the video cable.

To check before you come

  • Check that the screen cable is properly connected at both ends and that the screen is on the right input.
  • Test another screen or another television.
  • Unplug the USB peripherals.
  • On a desktop PC, try the other video output if your machine has several.

For a quick diagnosis, bring the PC (or laptop) with its power cable. Note what you see at startup and whether the PC makes noise or shows lights. These details help us target the fault from the start.

For a desktop PC, bring the tower only, without screen or keyboard, unless the problem comes from the screen. If your files are important, say so before any handling.
