  1. Switch the MacBook off immediately (hold the power button).
  2. Unplug the charger and all accessories.
  3. Stand it open, tent-style, so the liquid runs off without penetrating further into the board.
  4. Wipe off what is visible, without rubbing.
  5. Do not switch it back on, even if it seems dry, and bring it in as soon as possible.

Why you should not wait

A liquid does not always cause a fault right away. Oxidation then progresses on the contacts and the board, sometimes for several days. Sugary or salty drinks leave deposits that keep damaging components after drying. A quick cleaning limits this risk.

  • Do not use a hair dryer: the heat can damage the components.
  • Do not put the MacBook in rice: it does not remove the internal moisture.
